"In My Mind" is a song by American singer-songwriter Shannon Sanders from his debut album, Outta Nowhere (1999).[1] It was covered by Trinidadian singer-songwriter Heather Headley and released in late September 2005 as the lead single from her second studio album, In My Mind (2006). Her version peaked at number seventy-five on the Billboard Hot 100 in early April 2006, while the song's remixes by the Freemasons and Dave Hernandez topped the Hot Dance Club Play.
The song talks about a woman who is still in love with her ex-boyfriend and feels that, according to the lyrics, "In my mind, I'll always be his lady/In my mind, I'll always be his girl."

Directed by Diane Martel, the video opens with Headley at home at dawn, lying on a couch, in the kitchen, and watching television, intercut with scenes of her watching her ex-boyfriend kissing another girl across the street. Next, the video switches in and out of Headley singing and talking to her ex-boyfriend's mother, who hugs her near the end of the second verse. She is then shown walking with her ex, and as the bridge begins, a tear falls from her eye. As the song progresses, she is seen singing and holding the boyfriend, switching into scenes where she is standing in place, singing. The song appeared on The Game episode "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" that aired in the spring of 2008.
